Piping

Okay. My family thinks I've fallen off of the highest point of the roof and have lost more than my footing!

I am currently a member of the St. Andrews Pipes and Drums of Montomery, Alabama. I do not have a piping instructor at the moment, but am searching for someone who will challenge me. I have been going through John Cairns Bagpipe Instruction Series, which are quite nice.

Why would I do such a thing? The primary reason is simply to keep my brain active. Sounds corny, but I love learning new things and I believe it's one of the best methods of retarding my greatest fear- getting old.

Another reason, and of equal value, is because of the pipes rich history as an instrument of war. I have been a student of military history since a child and my interest in the bagpipes started when I began reading the accounts of the Highland Regiments during World War I. Pipers were often the first men "over the top" to lead soldiers into battle. Moral of the Highlander Regiments often depended upon their pipers.

Pipers are an excentric group and great people to be around. I hope to become a very good piper with very fast fingers!

My Dunbar P3's. They are made of Delrin, which is a very dense plastic that is milled in the same manner as the traditional pipe material, African Blackwood.

Poster design I did for Burn's Night at SAU. My daughter, Abbie, is the model.
