It is one of my favorite Warhol pieces.. up there with his Ali series. I was doing a little googling/research about the piece and came up with this interesting story...<br /><a href="http://slog.thestranger.com/slog/archives/2009/06/03/why-double-elvis-is-single-elvis-tell-the-people-whats-up" rel="self">Click here</a><br /><br /><img class="imageStyle" alt="1244070100-double_elvis" src="http://www.gregskaggs.com/page2/files/1244070100-double_elvis.jpg" width="480" height="332"/><br /><br /><br />And continues <a href="http://slog.thestranger.com/2008/05/warhols_cowles_blank" rel="self">here...</a><br /><br />I find it very interesting that Warhol would purposely place a solid color canvas next to a screen printed or painted image. I believe the space creates a rest for the eyes and establishes dominance for the repeated image it sits next to. According to the story, Warhol&rsquo;s blank connections were made to make the paintings larger in order to garner a larger price. What a capitalist! I love it. Hail Warhol!<br /><br />Here is an image of Warhol&rsquo;s Double Elvis that shows the true scale of the image.<br /><br /><img class="imageStyle" alt="finch5-27-09-5" src="http://www.gregskaggs.com/page2/files/finch5-27-09-5.jpg" width="480" height="435"/><br /><br /><br /><img class="imageStyle" alt="Geoffrey+Bradfield,+Andy+Warhol+Double+Elvis+commands+the+wall" src="http://www.gregskaggs.com/page2/files/geoffrey002bbradfield002c002bandy002bwarhol002bdouble002belvis002bcommands002bthe002bwall.jpg" width="397" height="518"/><br /><br />By the way, here is the print I bought in ebay..<br /><br />.<img class="imageStyle" alt="FW928" src="http://www.gregskaggs.com/page2/files/fw928.jpg" width="294" height="350"/><br /><br />Very good price of $24... it is 50&rdquo;x42&rdquo;<br /><br />Excellent!!<br /><br />And of interest...<br /><br /><img class="imageStyle" alt="Andy-Warhol" src="http://www.gregskaggs.com/page2/files/andy-warhol.jpg" width="480" height="283"/><br /><br />As displayed at the Pittsburg Museum of Art in 1990.
