I just purchased a Warhol ‘Double Elvis’ on ebay. It is one of my favorite Warhol pieces.. up there with his Ali series. I was doing a little googling/research about the piece and came up with this interesting story...

I find it very interesting that Warhol would purposely place a solid color canvas next to a screen printed or painted image. I believe the space creates a rest for the eyes and establishes dominance for the repeated image it sits next to. According to the story, Warhol’s blank connections were made to make the paintings larger in order to garner a larger price. What a capitalist! I love it. Hail Warhol!
Here is an image of Warhol’s Double Elvis that shows the true scale of the image.

By the way, here is the print I bought in ebay..
.
Very good price of $24... it is 50”x42”
Excellent!!
And of interest...

As displayed at the Pittsburg Museum of Art in 1990. This is Elvis Eleven Times.. never completed and was found in Warhol’s studio in progress.

Warhol with his Elvis prints.. 1964.
